Psychologist in Amsterdam city centre

You have a lot going for you. And still it does not feel right.

You are used to carrying on, taking responsibility and asking a great deal of yourself. But you may notice that it costs more energy every year. You doubt your work, your relationship or the direction of your life. Or you wonder why you are not happier, when little seems wrong from the outside.Together we look at what is really going on and what you need to feel space, direction and rest again.

Sound familiar?

You still function, but inside something is stuck

The people who come to me are often used to carrying a lot. They are engaged, responsible and good at thinking things through. That is exactly why they sometimes keep going for a long time. Until they notice that their old way no longer works.

  • Your mind is always on and switching off barely works.
  • You set the bar high and are rarely truly satisfied with yourself.
  • You have built a lot, but no longer know whether this is the life you want.
  • You adapt, arrange a great deal for others and lose touch with yourself.
  • An earlier experience, rejection or failure keeps more of a hold than you would like.
  • You have not collapsed, but you feel that something has to change.

Three ways in

Where it starts for most people

Perfectionism and always being on

You are hard on yourself, prepare everything thoroughly and feel responsible for the outcome. What others call quality is starting to cost you more and more energy.

Stuck in work and life

On paper a lot adds up, but inside the direction is missing. You doubt your choices, miss enjoyment, or wonder who you have become in everything you had to do.

Experiences that keep working on you

Sometimes you know exactly which moment still plays a part. Sometimes you only notice that you keep feeling or doing the same thing. When an earlier experience keeps its emotional charge, EMDR may be a fit.

How I work

First understand, then choose what works

I do not start with a standard method. First we map out what is going on, where patterns come from and what keeps them in place. I listen, ask further and name what stands out to me. Then we decide together what is needed. That can be a deeper conversation, a practical exercise, or EMDR when an earlier experience keeps holding you back.

I work actively and towards something. No endless conversations without direction, but no quick technique either before we understand what is going on.

About Pauline

More than 25 years with people and behaviour

In my work as a psychologist I have held thousands of conversations within assessments, selection procedures, career reviews and psychological evaluations. Among others for police, defence and other organisations where pressure, responsibility and performance play a large part.

That means I often see quickly how thoughts, emotions, experiences and life choices influence one another. My style is engaged and without judgement, but also sharp. I do not talk around things when looking at them honestly is what helps.

Experiences

Prefer independent reviews?

In line with the professional code for psychologists I do not publish client testimonials on my own site. If you want to read how others experienced the support, ZorgkaartNederland is the place to look.

You do not have to know yet exactly what is going on

In a free fifteen minute phone call you can say what you are running into. We look at whether my way of working suits you and what a sensible first step would be.

Free and without obligation. I almost always reply within 24 to 48 hours on working days.
