Online therapy

Online psychologist: the same conversation, in a different place

Talking to a psychologist does not have to wait until you have a two-hour gap in your diary. Through a secure video connection you talk to me from a quiet place at home, while I sit in my practice in Amsterdam city centre.

To me, online is a form of contact, not a separate treatment. You talk to the same psychologist and work the same way as at the practice. You only save the travel time.

Why people choose online

It is often a practical choice: a full week, a long journey or a job you cannot easily step away from. Others simply find it easier to talk from a place where they feel at ease.

  • no travel time, so easier to fit in
  • you sit in a place where you feel at ease
  • also if you do not live near Amsterdam
  • encrypted connection under the GDPR, sessions are not recorded

What you need

A laptop or computer with a camera, a stable internet connection, headphones and a room where you can sit undisturbed for an hour. That is all.

When I prefer to meet at the practice

Online is not always the best form, and I will tell you so honestly. With some complaints I prefer to be in the same room, because I see more and can adjust more quickly. I also prefer to do a first intake at the practice, if that is possible. Many people combine the two: the intake in Amsterdam, then some of the sessions online.

I am not an online platform with changing therapists. You talk to me, every time.

Online often works well with

  • Mild to moderate complaints
  • A safe, private room at home
  • A stable internet connection
  • A diary in which travel time is hard to fit

Preferably at the practice with

  • Complaints where I want to see more than a screen allows
  • An unsafe or restless home situation
  • Practising with VR, because the headset is at the practice
  • An acute crisis: call your GP, the out-of-hours GP service or 113
