Psychologist in Amsterdam

You are looking for a psychologist in Amsterdam, without a long process first. I am Pauline Bos, a psychologist registered with the Dutch NIP, working from my own practice in the city centre. You talk to me, from the first call to the last session.

Most people who come to me are still functioning. They work, care for others and keep things running. And yet something no longer feels right. You do not need a diagnosis to talk to a psychologist about that.

What I can help you with

These themes often overlap, so you do not need to know which box you fit in. These are the ones that come up most:

  • perfectionism and self-criticism
  • always being switched on, a mind that will not stop
  • doubts about your work, relationship or direction in life
  • having lost track of yourself
  • anxiety, fear of failure or phobias
  • an experience that keeps affecting you

More than 25 years of working with people under pressure

I have held thousands of conversations in assessments, career evaluations and psychological evaluations, among others for the Dutch police and Defence. That taught me that someone can look strong and successful on the outside while a lot is chafing inside.

I listen carefully, but I also ask questions and name what I notice. I work with methods including EMDR, ACT, cognitive behavioural therapy and solution-focused techniques. We only choose a method once it is clear what is going on.

How it works

We start with a free 15-minute phone call. If it feels right, a full intake of 75 to 90 minutes follows. A short course of four to six sessions is often enough, and we check along the way whether the direction still fits.

You do not need a GP referral. I work without contracts with health insurers, so sessions fall outside basic Dutch health insurance and no deductible (eigen risico) applies.

At the practice or online

The practice is at Sarphatistraat 14 in Amsterdam city centre. Sessions take place there or through a secure video connection. Many people combine the two: the intake in Amsterdam, then some of the sessions online.

My practice is a good fit for

  • Adults who feel stuck but are still functioning
  • Perfectionism, stress and questions about life
  • Anxiety, fear of failure and phobias
  • An experience that still carries a lot of weight

My practice is not intended for

  • Acute crisis care or active suicidal thoughts
  • Severe addiction
  • Psychosis
  • Complex difficulties that require specialist treatment
